Sleep time for toddlers has always been a difficult part of parenting. You're tired and the kid has to sleep. Unfortunately, they have lots of energy and are not really ready to call it a night. So what do you do?
Stop yourself from slipping some sleeping pills into your child's milk bottle. Instead, consider these strategies that have worked for us...so far.
- Keep sleep time consistent. It pays when your child knows when it is time to go to bed.
- Choose less active activities like reading a story.
- close the lights or at least dim them. This will give the cue to power down
- Use a softer voice. In fact, quiet time is a good prelude to sleeping time.
Kids have different temperaments and you should know your child's. This will help create an environment that is suitable to his/her sleeping time. There is no parenting manual that comes out when your child was born. But with a little practice anyone can be great at it.
